At Smart Gold – Hamilton, we offer industry leading testing methods to ensure the purity of your item.

Both gold and silver are not magnetic, so we are able to easily weed out any items that are not genuine simply by going over your items with a very powerful earth magnet. We’ll then start with karat and/or purity identification using a loupe (a powerful magnifying glass). Although karat or identification marks are fairly reliable, this is a very basic analysis and does not necessarily mean the item is genuine, even if it is marked 10k/14k/.925, etc.

At the final stage, items will be subjected to an acid scratch test (with your permission) and or X-ray fluorescence scan to ensure their genuineness.
